Document Design

Document is the best communicative tools in life circle. The prevalence of electronic media such as the Internet, telecommunications industry, satellite communications (Monitor,2001) give rise to the universal growths of global cultures. The emergence of image forms a more precise and comprehensive means ( Kress& van Leeuwen, 2006). In the case of picture aid and technological functions, document designers should think of the ways to compose a good document design rather than specialize in using technological skills by merely beautifying the image ( Schriver, 1997).

The picture depicts a drowning woman, who is struggling in the water. However, the texts that appear in the column doesn't relate to the picture itself. The woman is portrayed as aesthetics rather than a victim.

A writer plays a role pf guiding the reader through the information structures with proper language and grammar (Schriver, 1997). A good writing is prerequisite in document design to achieve a particular impact (Putnis& Petelin, 1996). Poor wring constructs wrong meaning and misguides the reader as they interpret wrongly by creating their own imaginations. For the document designer, it is first hand to examine the layout of document. Based on the mistake I have learnt from my group presentation, this is the slide that I would like to make change in my individual presentation:

Apparently, the slide is lack of attraction and design. According to Kress and Van Leeuwen(2006), i will utilize the element of salience to modulate the contrast between the Olympic symbol and the background. With the code of Framing, I would like to frame the Olympic symbol with a border that will give prominence to the picture. To reach the concept of symmetry and consistency and readability, the spacing between the bulleted text and the design of the title will be regulated so that the reader will connect the text with the object (Olympic symbol).

Document designer focuses on the interaction between readers and documents. The process of how the document designers to carry up the information sources to the readers is extremely important. In multimodal text, document designer concrete all the functions and devices, such as visual, audio, technology and so on to reach their audiences with their masterpiece ( Walsh, 2006).
